Kaish Mangal
Director - FreQuip Rentals
Thank you for inviting me to share my thoughts on this important initiative. I believe the biggest shift needed today is to give students more real exposure to industry problems, tools, and work environments—not just classroom concepts. When students work on live projects, shadow industry teams, or use the same digital tools companies use, their confidence and clarity grow instantly.
To build agile skills, we need to train students to be adaptable, curious, and comfortable with change. This can be done through practical workshops, simulations, short tech courses, and constant experimentation. Certifications in data analytics, AI applications, and digital marketing can also help them stay ahead of the curve.
Looking ahead, the future of management education will be shaped by technology, empathy, ethical leadership, and an ability to make decisions with both data and intuition. Students who can think creatively, communicate clearly, and understand consumers deeply will stand out.
In short, the goal should be to move from teaching “subjects” to developing well-rounded, future-ready professionals who can thrive in a fast-changing world.

Future skills of Management Education
Future management education must focus on a blend of human-centric and digital skills. Managers will essentialy need digital fluency (AI and data analytics) to navigate complexity and lead effectively.
Proficiency with AI, machine learning, big data analytics, and digital tools will be the need of the time. Decision Making will be data driven than rule based.
Management education must have emphasis on internships, live projects, and industry collaboration. Curriculum must include simulations with digital tools to improve performance of a manager. There should be holistic approach balancing technical skills with human-centered development.
One needs to remember that even innovations now-a-days have very short span of life. This demands very agile approach in the skills of future managers.

Industry Integration : What specific, actionable steps can academic institutions take to effectively inculcate essential, industry-oriented skill sets into the current management curriculum?
Academic institutions should embed industry-oriented skills into management programs by co-creating curriculum with employers, hard-wiring live projects and tech tools into courses and assessing students on demonstrable work outputs rather than only exams.
Make live consulting projects, internships, or apprenticeships credit-bearing and supervised jointly by faculty and industry mentors, with deliverables that mirror real roles (making students create dashboards, go-to-market plans, process redesigns, product roadmaps).
Agile Skill Development : Given the rapid evolution of technology and the resulting business agility, what strategies can we employ to ensure our students acquire future-proof and relevant management skills that meet the immediate and emerging needs of the industry?
Adopt agile pedagogy, not only agile content.
You can run courses in short sprints with weekly deliverables and structured feedback so students experience iterative planning, backlog management, and rapid pivots similar to modern workplaces. Intentionally design modules that cut across domains, data driven problem solving, stakeholder management, storytelling with data, and cross-functional collaboration since these skills show the fastest growth in demand.
💡 Your Vision : The Future of Management Education
The future of management education will be defined by technology-integrated, industry-co-created, and human centered learning that prepares graduates to lead in an AI-augmented, sustainability conscious, and continuously disrupted world. Management programs will move from being one-time degrees to lifelong learning ecosystems that blend deep domain expertise with adaptive, cross-functional future skills.

1. Industry Integration
To ensure meaningful and continuous alignment between academia and industry, institutions may consider the following actionable steps:
- Establish formal mechanisms to obtain ongoing insights from industry experts across various functional areas and centers of excellence. These insights should directly inform curriculum updates, specialized modules, and contemporary case studies.
- Facilitate structured and frequent interactions between faculty, students, and industry leaders through guest sessions, roundtables, immersion programs, and applied workshops. This exposure ensures that both teaching and learning remain relevant and industry-informed.
- Leverage these industry engagements to co-develop Management Development Programs (MDPs), certification modules, and micro-learning tracks that respond to emerging business needs.
- Encourage faculty participation in short-term industry assignments or consulting engagements, which helps translate real-world challenges into academic rigor and classroom discussions.
- MoUs with leading industrial organizations for high-demand courses.
- Exchange programs for expanding the horizon of students and faculty.
2. Agile Skill Development
Given the accelerated pace of technological and business transformation, MBA/ PGDM programs must emphasize applied learning. Some potential steps include:
- Shift classroom delivery towards application-oriented pedagogy that encourages students to think beyond theoretical constructs and adopt a solution-driven mindset.
- Strengthen internship opportunities by:
- Collaborating closely with industry to secure summer, short-term, and part-time internships aligned with organizational needs.
- Tracking and mentoring students throughout their internship period to maximize learning outcomes.
- Facilitating longer-duration internships wherever possible, which have consistently shown to yield richer, more practical insights.
- Sign MOUs with leading industrial organization for demanding courses.
- Exchange programs will also help in expanding the horizon of students and faculty
- Create specialized subject labs that simulate real industry environments—such as sales labs focusing on negotiation, body language, customer interactions, and persuasive communication. These controlled environments offer hands-on practice in situations students will encounter in their careers.
- Consider optimizing the duration of the program to increase intensity, agility, and relevance, ensuring students enter the industry quicker and with sharper skill sets.
3. The Future Skills of Management Education
Looking ahead, management education must prepare students for a world defined by agility, interdisciplinary thinking, and continuous learning. Future-ready managers will require:
- Strong analytical abilities supported by digital fluency.
- Deep customer and market understanding.
- Adaptability, resilience, and the capacity to collaborate across diverse environments.
- Ethical decision-making anchored in empathy and responsibility.
- The ability to navigate ambiguity and derive solutions through innovation and experimentation.
These skills will ensure that graduates not only meet but exceed the expectations of modern organizations.

When Industry Moves at Lightning Speed, Education Cannot Walk
The rules of business have changed over the years. Routine tasks are being replaced by automation, AI is enhancing decision-making, and businesses are reorganizing around agility rather than hierarchy. However, a lot of curricula are still based on linear models, predictable case studies, and memory-based assessment methods rather than mastery.
The outcome? graduates who understand theory but find it difficult to deal with the emotional complexity and fluidity of work place
Management education needs to become a living ecosystem with strong ties to business rather than a "academic island" in order to stay relevant. This entails learning in real time, solving problems in the real world, and developing connections with practitioners that go well beyond the occasional guest lecture.
Having studied how the KASH framework (Knowledge–Attitude–Skills–Habits) improves the learning process during my international Professional Doctorate and having spent thirty years immersed in corporate learning, executive soft-skills development, and management education - I see today’s landscape as both a challenge and an extraordinary opportunity.
Why the Future Belongs to Agile, Human-Centric and Industry-Integrated Learning?
You might experience an odd sense of time travel when you walk into many management classrooms currently. A large portion of management education still uses models designed for a slower, more predictable world, even though we live in a time characterized by artificial intelligence, hybrid work, geopolitical change, and unrelenting innovation. Not only is the gap between what academia produces and what industry requires growing, but it is also becoming unsustainable.
The question is now, "How do we reimagine management learning so that students are future-ready the moment they step out of the classroom?" rather than, "How do we upgrade the curriculum?"
For years, industry representatives have shared a consistent concern: students arrive qualified, but not prepared. They possess degrees, but not the industry-calibrated competence needed to deliver from day one.
The answer - The New Learning Formula: Less Lecture, More Life
To bridge this gap, academia must move from episodic engagement with industry to embedded collaboration. This means designing curriculum with ongoing industry participation, integrating live corporate projects into coursework, and transforming classrooms into simulation labs that mirror real business environments.
The future belongs to institutions that do not “teach about business”—they teach with business.
When classrooms become labs rather than lecture halls, students transform from passive note-takers into problem-solvers with professional maturity.
In a world where every industry is being disrupted, skill longevity is shrinking. A tool learned today may be outdated a year later. The only skill that remains timeless is the ability to learn, unlearn, and relearn — the core of agility.
Agility is not built through information overload; it is built through structured behaviour-shaping frameworks like KASH (Knowledge, Attitude, Skills, Habits) and through iterative design approaches that encourage experimentation over perfection. When students develop the mindset to adapt, the courage to try, and the habits to persist, they become future-proof — not because of what they know, but because of how they grow.
Even as AI enters boardrooms and analytics becomes the new corporate language, human capability remains the differentiator. Emotional intelligence, listening, cultural sensitivity, empathy, ethical reasoning, and the ability to influence — these are the competencies shaping contemporary leadership.
Ironically, in an increasingly digital world, the “soft” skills have become the hardest to ignore.
Management education must treat these not as optional add-ons, but as foundational. They are the skills that determine who collaborates effectively, who leads with trust, and who navigates crises without losing clarity. A manager today does not need to code — but must be comfortable with data dashboards, AI-based tools, digital workspaces, and cybersecurity basics. Digital illiteracy is no longer an academic gap; it is a leadership risk.
The modern curriculum must integrate digital fluency not as a standalone course but as a thread running through finance, marketing, operations, HR, and strategy. No discipline is untouched by technology, and neither should the learning process be.
Management Education at the Dawn of Reinvention
If we want our students to thrive in tomorrow’s boardrooms, co-working spaces, entrepreneurial ventures, and global teams, our academic reforms must be bold and human-centered. Curriculum must become fluid. Classrooms must become laboratories. Education must become experiential, immersive, and industry-integrated. And ultimately, learning must aim not only to build skill sets—but to shape mindsets.
Because the managers of tomorrow will not succeed merely by knowing what the world is. They will succeed by reimagining what the world can be.

According to Ravindranath Tagore's holistic educational philosophy, "The highest education is that which does not merely give us information but makes our life in harmony with all existence". This went beyond rote memorization and the colonial-era focus on bureaucratic job skills. His vision emphasized many principles beyond formal education, such as Freedom and Creativity, Cultural and Universal Awareness, and Self-Realization.
It is our responsibility to inculcate such values while educating the new generation.e
